Who can refer?

Before making a referral, please check that you or the person you’re referring meets our criteria.

To get help from the service, you need to be:

  • A child or a young person

  • Aged between 5 and 18 years

  • Living in Staffordshire or registered with a Staffordshire GP

  • Experiencing mild to moderate emotional or behavioural difficulties

We also support young people aged up to 25 years, who have an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) or are looked after by the local authority.

Please note: We are not a crisis service. See who to call if you need urgent help.

Who can make a referral?

  • Young people

  • Parents and carers

  • Professionals, such as staff from schools and colleges or GPs

Making a referral on behalf of someone?

We recommend that you talk to them about the referral first. It’s important that they understand your concerns and why you feel Action for Children would be the best support for them. Reassure them that this is a step towards getting help.

Give us as much information as you can. It helps us understand what issues the child or young person needs help with.

How to refer?

You can make a referral through our secure online portal. Once we have your information, our team will be in touch about your referral. This could be via post, email or phone.
